A Great Design

The Doorknob Signal

We’ve seen it before, the universal sign of “I have company, go away” signal. Often taking form as a tie around a doorknob or the potted plant flipped over. There’s got to be a more high-tech way. The Doorknob Condition uses an innovated pulley system that makes the knob on the exterior recess inwards when pulled from the inside. Without a knob to use, there’s no way to get it. Sure it could be great for security but who are we kidding? We know exactly how a doorknob like this would be used. Too bad it doesn’t have a little timer to indicate when to come back.

A Show Stopper

This 1930s hunting lodge in Wilton, Connecticut, has been gorgeously transformed into a contemporary home by Amsterdam’s UXUS Design firm. While maintaining the classic American style and paying homage to the heritage of this 2,339 square-feet house, the designers used an unexpected fusion of American and European design inspired by rustic luxury. The lodge is filled with fun and amazing pieces like my all time favorite Dear Ingo lamp by Moooi (in white) in the foyer. The colors used are soft and quiet, except for the deliberate injection of orange to add some spark to the space. Altogether, this chic hunting lodge is most definitely a show stopper! Don't you agree?
BTW, for all my American readers I hope you're having a fantastic 4th of July, cheers!

A Fab Solar House

In my recent trip to Spain, I came across this very interesting article about a solar house contest produced by the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia, where the Fab Lab House received the audience award for the best of its kind. Because of its organic shape some referred to it as the peanut home, cinnamon submarine, forest Zeppelin or even whale belly. But whatever you might want to call this unique home, its contribution to green living is quite significant as it introduced the most efficient flexible solar panels in the world as of yet — a significant breakthrough in the architectural integration of solar systems.
